Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Steward, a private personal assistant run by Evan Williams ("I", "me") for his own household, handles your information when you sign in with your Google account.
Google user data it accesses
- Account: your name, email address and profile picture, to know which account is signed in.
- Gmail: messages, labels and basic mail settings, to read, search, label and summarize your mail, and to draft and send messages you ask it to.
- Google Calendar: your calendars and events, to show your schedule and to add or change events you ask it to.
- Google Drive: your files, to find and read documents you ask about and to save files it creates for you.
How it uses that data
- Only to provide the assistant's features to you: answering your questions, briefings, reminders, keeping the family calendar current, and carrying out the email, calendar and file tasks you request.
- Messages it sends and changes it makes on your behalf go through an approval step, and every action is logged.
- It is not used for advertising, is not sold, and is not used to build profiles for anyone else.
AI processing
Steward uses AI models to read and respond to your requests. These run mainly on computers I own. Some requests may be processed by an AI model provider (DeepInfra or Anthropic) through their APIs, only to produce the response to that request. Google user data is not used to train, develop or improve generalized AI or machine-learning models, by me or by those providers.
Sharing
I do not sell, rent or share your Google user data with third parties, except:
- the AI model providers above, only to process your request;
- the people you ask Steward to email or invite, with the content you approve;
- where required by law.
Limited Use
Steward's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Storage and security
Steward runs on servers I control on my home network. Google sign-in tokens are stored encrypted. Copies of mail, events and file content are kept only as long as needed to provide the features above, and access is limited to me and the household members who use Steward.
Your choices
- You can disconnect your account in Steward, or revoke its access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Ask me to delete the data Steward holds about your account and I will delete it.
